A Few of my Favorite things.....

December is a great month to encourage your children to create! At home, students love to create cards and decorations around the house. Many students love being able to create art projects outside of school. Art activities are especially great on those cold days, when the kids they are stuck inside looking for something to do. This year think beyond toys that break or get boring shortly after Christmas, pick something that will spark creativity and build your child's imagination. Here are a few of my favorite gift ideas for your budding artist:
1. Sketch books and nice drawing pencil sets
2. Model Magic air dry clay (don't worry, it's not messy, and kids love it)
3. Friendship bracelet kits
4. Model cars, planes, etc.
5. Art sets, these usually have a sampling of supplies like paints, pastels, pencils, etc.
6. Art supplies such as Prang or Crayola watercolors and watercolor paper, chalk or oil pastels, markers
7. How to draw books (a great resource that I like is www.doverpublications.com)
8. Scratch Art, this comes in a variety of forms, from blank pages, journals and images stamped on the sheets.
9.Velvet art! You loved it as a kid and so will your kids! velvet art comes in all kinds of themes and sizes. And they will keep your child occupied for hours!

Fabulous Fifth Grade Artist!
Students will be spending the month of December honing their drawing skills. They have already created some fantastic landscapes and are working on one point perspective drawings.

Super Awesome Sixth Grade Year Long Artist!
Year long students have been to Vietnam and Sweden recently. That's right, while in Vietnam they learned about Trung Thu, a special children's festival following the Harvest Moon. Students made lanterns similar to those given to children during this holiday. Student's also learned about a special art from Sweden. I don't want to give to much away, since this project just might be found under the Christmas tree.

Rockin' Rotation Classes!
Students are nearing the completion of their Egyptian project. This has been such a huge undertaking. Students have done an amazing job and I am proud of them for keeping their enthusiasm focus on this project. I can't wait to see the results of their hard work!
