We have been having some major art happening going on this year! The kids are doing an amazing job!!!! Fifth graders are sharpening their drafting/ architect skills. They are designing Greek Revival buildings, which are coming together rather nicely. Be sure to look at them at the PTO performance on November 10th. Sixth graders have been explore many Asian countries lately, including Vietnam, India and Japan. The sixth graders just completed making clay elephants, and are waiting for them to be fired. In the mean time, they are learning the art of grinding their own inks for Sum-ee Brush painting. They are using their inks to paint traditional Japanese portraits. I can't wait to seem them finished, so far they look fantastic!

Final Thoughts.....
-Always take time to ask your child about their art work, and ask them about the history behind the art.

-Spend some quality time with your child, go to the art & craft store and pick out a fun project to do together.

-Looking for some cool Christmas ideas: Lots of great art sets should be available at Hobby Lobby, Michael's and even Border's...Check it out!

During Parent Teacher Conferences, be sure to check out all the great student work displayed in the library. This will be a great time to visit with your child's Elective/Specials teachers. There will projects available for viewing from Computers, Music, P.E. and Art classes.
6th Graders are learning all sorts of interesting facts about India. Be sure to ask them what Bindi dots mean. Or ask them to share the story of Rama and Sita. For their current project, they are working on Mehndi hand and foot designs. They also have had the opportunity to carve their very own stamp, which is being used for the border of their hand project. They are turning out really nice.
Enjoy the day off with some fun web sites! Check out the Links I have suggested for 5th and 6th grade. I also have some just for fun too!
